Team 5-Star Fish has had a career year in 2004. Coming off an injury-plagued 2003 campaign fraught with drug scandals, sponsor bankruptcies, and intra-team conflict, the team has united behind leader Bri to launch attack upon fearsome attack, crushing their rivals and leaving at a loss for words even the verbose Phil Liggett.
- SAN DIEGO VELODROME TRACK SERIES - 7/27/04 - Briagra strikes! On his first-ever night of track racing, Bri takes back-to-back races in a dismantling of foes not seen since the Romans invaded Carthage. In the 7-lap point-a-lap, Bri wins 3 laps and gets third in the final for four points. Roy wins the final sprint for 3 points and it's a 5-star 1-2 victory. In the following Unknown Distance race, Bri takes advantage of stellar positioning to attack and hold on for the win just ahead of a surging Roy for another 5-star 1-2 finish. Unprecedented! On top of that Bri wins a beer preem and scores 5 points in the 30-lap B/C points race. A night for the 5-star history books!
- SAN MARCOS CIRCUIT RACE - 7/18/04 - Battling intense heat, fierce competition, and cowardly flake-outs by team members The Just and Philthy, 5-Star nevertheless placed Bri in the top-6 for some much-needed USCF points and a free pair of socks.
- SAN DIEGO VELODROME TRACK SERIES - 7/13/04 - Coming of a second place in the Unknown Distance race, Roy entered the 20-lap B/C Points Race with a plan - grab a wheel and stay on it until the end. The plan was executed flawlessly, as on the final lap Roy attacks hard around the outside to surge into the lead and sprint it out for 5 points and the victory in Sprint 4. Overall, he lands a 3rd place amid a field stuffed with veteran champions.
- SAN DIEGO VELODROME TRACK SERIES - 6/29/04 - Amid the uncertainty and skittishness of an Unknown Distance race, Roy executes a flawless attack on a shocked field to power away for 3 solo laps and outlast a charging peloton, scoring the overall win to a hysterically cheering crowd numbering in the dozens.
- SAN DIEGO OMNIUM/CRITERIUM - 6/26/04 - Amid a field of international and domestic powerhouse riders, 5-Star's aces Bri, Nickolini, and Roy dice the opposition like Jimmy Dean sausages on an hors d'oevres plate at the symphony to strategically place all 3 riders in the top 20, demoralizing rival teams going into the critical mid-summer racing season.
- SAN DIEGO OMNIUM/ROAD RACE - 6/24/04 - Bri makes the split on the first major climb and proceeds to hammer away from the field to score a dominant 5th-place finish.
- SAN DIEGO VELODROME TRACK SERIES - 6/02/04 - Shrewdly assessing the wind profile of his competitors, Roy drafts for 6 laps and then fiercely jumps off the front to gap the stunned field by over 1/4 lap and take the overall victory to the din of legions of shrieking fans.
- CAMP PENDLETON DUATHLON - 5/30/04 - Roy and Slenn make a last minute switch to the team relay and proceed to pummel the powerful field, scoring another podium finish and adding the second trophy of the year to the case.
- BARRIO LOGAN GRAND PRIX - 5/03/04 - Bri, Nickolini, and Roy battle to top-20 finishes in the elite cat 4/5 division, vanquishing over 60% of the field and dropping all rival Bud drinkers in post-race recovery.
- ROSARITO-ENSENADA CLASSIC - 4/20/04 - Bri attacks on El Tigre, splintering the field and dismantling the opposition en route to an overall 8th place finish of 10,000 starters.
- CAMP PENDLETON ROAD RACE - 3/15/04 - Bri attacks on the major climb and a few others join to form a lead group that stays away for the entire race. Nipped at the line, Bri scores a 3rd-place finish in the 30-35 division, adding the first trophy of the year to the case.
- SDBC CYCLOCROSS - 1/11/04 - 5-Star's first-ever cyclocross race, entered by Nickolini, Bri, Roy, and The Kid, is a tremendous success, with Nickolini taking 10th and all team members finishing in the top-30. Look out for more cyclocross assaults coming soon.
